Robert Meachem - WR1

Free agency has shifted a lot a fantasy players around the NFL. Once such move sent wide receiver Robert Meachem to the San Diego Chargers. As former Saint Meachem never caught fire with Drew Brees and company. But now with a new start on a new team and the departure of top wide receiver Vincent Jackson from the Charger’s roster, Meachem now might have his day in the spotlight. Head coach Norv Turner spoke highly of Meachem, stating:

Chargers a No. 1 receiver. He’s a guy that has big-play ability. He can be a complete receiver. Obviously he’s been in an offense where they spread the ball around to a lot of people. I think he’s a guy along the line of players we’ve had that can be an 18 yards a catch guy and be a very, very productive player.

I’m not sure that this moves Meachem into a WR1 position on your fantasy team but he is definitely worth a look for a WR2. Chargers QB Philip Rivers has a powerful arm and isn’t afraid to use it, if Meachem and him get on the same page this off season they can really start something special in San Diego. He has proven himself in the past that he can make the big play, but Antonio Gates has become the go to guy for the Chargers.
